In chin implant surgery, a sculpted piece of material is inserted in your chin to increase the size and make your jawline sharper. They are usually made of silicone.

When it can be used?

Also called chin enhancement surgery or genioplasty, it is done in cases of returned or weak chin (microgenia). It can also correct a double chin that's caused by a small chin bone.

What are the pros and cons of a chin implant?

Pros

  • Enhance facial features- Gives jaw more definition, and reduces a double chin.
  • Customized - You can choose how much projection you want.
  • Back to home same day

Cons

  • Results - take up to three months to appear, due to swelling.
  • Tightness - May feel a tightness in their chin for about three weeks.

What happens during chin implant surgery?

Most doctors prefer a general anesthetic for chin implant surgery.

A small incision either under the chin or inside the mouth is given so that the scar is not noticeable. Then a pocket is created to insert the implant and mould it around your chin bone.

Once the implant is secured, incision is sutured and bandage is put over chin.

Chin augmentation surgery usually takes from one to three hours. Some patients combine this procedure with neck liposuction, to better accentuate the jawline.

How long does chin implant surgery recovery take?

After chin implant surgery, most patients need a week of downtime before returning to work and four weeks before returning to heavy work or exercise.

Final results can be appreciated three months after surgery, once the swelling has subsided.
